an ancient belief propagated by the Greeks
around 450 BC.
Earth. Water. Air. Fire.
Earth is life’s number one supporter
As it allows other lives to grow from it
From the rootedness, branches sprout
Life forms are nourished, all for our benefit.
Water grants life’s continuity
In every flow, it gives and it takes
Absorbing emissions, bringing nutrients
Washing all our troubles away.
Air, the only invisible that is ever present
The glass is never empty, never even half-full
Because air always fills completely-
Ready to be of service to our lungs at any given time.
Fire, the light and the heat-
Burning itself for our deepest desires
Insinuating fervor, fueling passion.
Its intensity renders nothing impossible.
If the Ancient Greeks were right
and that the universe indeed
is comprised of four elements-
Earth. Water. Air. Fire.
Then you are a whole universe within you.
Like Earth,
You are life’s number one supporter
Every life you touch you nurture
In your rootedness, they find nourishment.
Like Water,
You grant life’s continuity
Continuously flowing in others
Giving what’s good, taking what’s heavy.
Like Air,
You are ever present
Through your constant willingness
To be of service.
Like Fire,
You are the light and the heat
When you find the fuel,
You burn for those you’re passionate about.
The universe is comprised of four elements-
